In Very Good condition. Illustrated wraps with French flaps, the covers reproducing Appel's painting House: South View From Court. Light bumping to corners and light scuffing to the covers, binding tight. Interior bright. Otherwise unmarked. Catalog for the exhibition Kevin Appel at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (September 26, 1999 to January 2, 2000), the artist's first solo museum show as third recipient of the Citibank Private Bank Emerging Artist Award. Reproduces in color Appel's architecturally themed paintings of the 1990s (House, Garden View, Landing, Indoor-Outdoor Living, and related works), in which California modernist interiors and gardens dissolve into faceted, diagrammatic abstraction. With a Director's Statement by Jeremy Strick and essays by Paul Schimmel (Interior Decoration and Nostalgia: The Unnatural Painting of Kevin Appel) and Jan Tumlir (Inside/Out: On the Painting of Kevin Appel). Contents: Director's Statement (Jeremy Strick); Interior Decoration and Nostalgia: The Unnatural Painting of Kevin Appel (Paul Schimmel); Inside/Out: On the Painting of Kevin Appel (Jan Tumlir); checklist of the exhibition; biography; one-person and group exhibitions; bibliography.
