In Good condition. Brown printed paper wraps; a 1.5-inch tear to the covering over the foot of the spine, a few small nicks and tears to the edges, mild to moderate shelf wear with some soiling and spotting. Binding solid. Light foxing to the edges of the text block; pages lightly toned and unmarked, with heavier toning to the first and last few leaves and occasional light spotting. An uncommon Brazilian schoolroom adaptation of Thornton Wilder's Our Town, issued in Sao Paulo as number five in the Serie de textos da Uniao Cultural Brasil-Estados Unidos, the binational cultural center's series for teaching American English. Wilder's play was simplified and adapted for language teaching by Clifford H. Prator (then directing work at the Centro Colombo-Americano in Bogota) and further adapted for Brazilian students by R.E.I. Dimmick, with a preface by the series director Joseph F. Privitera. The play text is given in English, footnoted in Portuguese, and followed by an English-Portuguese vocabulary and a list of common idioms. A product of the postwar Good Neighbor cultural exchange between the United States and Brazil, and an unusual entry in the printing history of one of the most-produced American plays.
