In Good condition. Red and yellow illustrated paper covers show light bumping to edges and mild shelf wear. Glued binding is brittle and the covers are starting to separate from the text block, though all pages remain attached. Pages clean and unmarked. A popular illustrated history of Santa Barbara's Spanish and Mexican era, from Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's 1542 sighting of the coast through the founding of the Royal Presidio in 1782 and the Old Mission to the close of the rancho period. Tompkins, the region's best-known local historian, covers the presidio, missions, land grants, and early adobes, including a guide to "Sixteen Adobes You Can Visit Today," with line drawings, maps, and plans throughout by Santa Barbara artist Russell A. Ruiz.
