Pages clean and unmarked.Two of the three catalogs dispersing the mystery and detective fiction library of Adrian H. Goldstone (1897-1977), one of the finest such collections ever assembled. Goldstone was a voracious reader and bibliographer who co-authored the standard John Steinbeck bibliography with John R. Payne (University of Texas, 1974) and the Arthur Machen bibliography with Wesley D. Sweetser, and who built important collections of Sinclair Lewis, Faulkner, Hemingway, and Rockwell Kent. California Book Auction Galleries sold the mystery collection in three sales held December 9 to 11, 1981. Offered here are Part II (Authors F to P, Sale 181, December 10, 1981, lots 1011 to 2192) and Part III (Authors Q to Z, plus Anthologies, Reference, and Sherlock Holmes, Sale 182, December 11, 1981, lots 2193 to 3236). Highlights include Hammett, Lovecraft, Rex Stout, Dorothy Sayers, Ellery Queen, and an extensive Sherlock Holmes and Conan Doyle section. Each lot is described with edition and condition notes.
