In Acceptable condition. Plain pale-green wraps with a black banner across the front cover lettering "BERNARD AMTMANN, INC. / MONTREAL, CANADA" between bold hand-lettered "ARCTIC" and "ANTARCTIC." Heavy toning to covers with edge nicking and tearing, surface scuffing and soiling, and some insect damage (silverfishing) along the edges. Black cloth spine tape is cracked and peeling, but staple binding remains tight. Pages lightly toned but otherwise unmarked.A 1960 sale catalogue from the Montreal antiquarian dealer Bernard Amtmann, Inc., listing and describing 588 items of polar literature: books, pamphlets, and other printed material relating to the Arctic and Antarctic. Holdings range from early voyages and expedition narratives through nineteenth- and twentieth-century scientific reports, regional histories of Greenland, Iceland, Labrador, Alaska, and the Canadian North, ethnographic studies, polar fiction, and government documents. Notable items priced in the catalogue include Phipps's A Voyage Towards the North Pole (1773-74, large paper copy), Frobisher's three voyages (Argonaut Press 1938 edition of the 1578 George Best text), Sir George Back's Arctic narratives, Sir John Richardson's Arctic Searching Expedition (1851, Franklin search), and a number of Amundsen and Franklin titles.
