This issue's cover article, On Location in Malibu: Paintings by the California Art Club by Michael Zakian, Ph.D. (Director of the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art at Pepperdine University), accompanies the exhibition of the same name at that museum, featuring sixty-five contemporary paintings of Malibu by forty-seven California Art Club artists. Zakian places the works in the lineage of California Impressionism's Golden Age (1900-1930) and the early plein air masters who first painted Malibu, including Edgar Payne, Hanson Puthuff (1875-1972), Millard Sheets (1907-1989), and Elmer Wachtel (1864-1922).
