Pale yellow cloth-covered boards with bold black folk-art decorative designs on front and rear (stylized trees-of-life with diamond, star, and cross motifs) and titling stamped in black on spine ("RODNEY GALLOP / LOS VASCOS"); mild shelf wear with some toning to the spine and light edge wear to corners. A handsome Spanish edition of Rodney Gallop's classic study of the Basques, drawing on extensive fieldwork in both the French and Spanish Basque country and treating the language, literature, music, dance, architecture, decoration, sport, folklore, and superstitions of the region. Rodney Gallop (1901-1948), an English diplomat and ethnographer, was one of the most respected non-Basque authorities on Basque culture; his original work appeared in English in 1930 as "A Book of the Basques" and remains a standard reference.
