In Good condition. Glossy blue and white pictorial paper covers have a few small nicks with light bumping and creasing along the edges, some peeling along the top edge, some color loss along the edges, and light overall surface wear. Binding is tight. Interior pages are clean and unmarked. A volume in Soka Gakkai Malaysia's "Wisdom for Life" series, presenting a series of conversations between Daisaku Ikeda (1928-2023), third president of the Soka Gakkai and founding president of Soka Gakkai International, and youth-division representatives of Soka Gakkai Japan. Ikeda and the young interlocutors examine the life and work of Francisco Goya (1746-1828) as a lens for discussing human dignity, perseverance in suffering, and the ethical role of the artist. Goya's struggle with deafness, his Los caprichos and La tauromaquia print series, Los proverbios, the Black Paintings, and late masterworks such as The Milkmaid of Bordeaux are all touched on. The opening Profile section sketches Ikeda's own biography, his Tokyo wartime youth, his meeting with Josei Toda in 1947, and his development of Soka Gakkai International into a global Buddhist humanist movement. The closing chapter is a standalone biography of Goya.
