In Very Good condition with a Very Good dust jacket. Blue cloth boards with gold lettering on spine show mild shelf wear along the edges; binding is tight. Signed by Gordon Cotton on the front free endpaper. Light staining to the fore edge of the text block. Pages are a bit wavy along the bottom edge from past moisture exposure, but no damage staining is present. Otherwise unmarked. Blue pictorial dust jacket has a few small nicks and light creasing along the edges and mild surface wear. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. An illustrated history of Vicksburg, Mississippi, during the Civil War era, chronicling the city from secession through the forty-seven-day siege of 1863 and the years of Union military occupation that followed. Drawing on period photographs, engravings, newspaper accounts, and personal narratives, Cotton and Giambrone detail both the military campaigns and the civilian experience of occupation. Gordon Cotton was the longtime director of the Old Court House Museum in Vicksburg.
