In Very Good condition. Pale blue wraps, the front cover printed with decorative title lettering and a vignette of zoo animals (chimpanzee, great ape, penguin, dolphin) in dark brown line drawing. Mild shelf wear with light bumping and minor creasing to the edges. Inner leaves laid in as issued; no binding. Pages clean, unmarked, and bright. Catalog number W.M. Co. 10994.An original theme with seven variations for piano by B. J. Rosco, each section titled for a zoo animal. The opening Theme (Chimpanzees) is followed by variations on Gazelles, Emperor Penguins, Dolphins, Marmosets, The Sea Otter, The Great Apes, and The Humpbacked Whale, each accompanied by mood indications. Selected as a commissioned work for the 1982 20th Anniversary celebration of the Southwest Youth Music Festival, Los Angeles. Includes a composer's introduction, a "Meet the Composer" biographical note on the back cover, and a closing "Zoography" describing each animal featured in the variations.[From Introduction] "ANTICS IN THE ZOO is a set of seven variations on an original theme. The variations offer interpretive material that is imaginative and colorful as well as amusing. The sub-titles are accompanied with mood indications to fit each variation. The set uses imitative, retrograde and simultaneous mirroring, parallelism, melodic doubling and quartal harmony. Imagine a visit to the zoo on a beautiful bright sunny day.
