In Acceptable condition. The illustrated paper covers are completely separated from the text block along the spine; the interior pages remain secured by the intact staple binding. The front cover has a 1-inch tear at the fore edge and additional chips and tears along the edges. A previous owner's address is stamped to the lower corner of the front cover. A 2-inch triangular area of scuffing in the center of the front cover has resulted in loss of the top color layer. Moderate overall toning and soiling to both covers. Interior pages are lightly toned with a few small nicks and tears to the edges; otherwise clean and unmarked.Of particular interest to Max Brand (Frederick Faust) collectors: this issue contains "Island of Safety," one of his short fiction contributions to McCall's. Among the most actively collected pulp-era writers, Max Brand's 1935 McCall's appearances command significant premiums; his January 1935 McCall's contribution alone is listed by dealers at $85 in Very Good condition. Also contains the opening installment of Margaret Culkin Banning's novel "Early Returns" (subtitled "The Story of a Bargain Marriage," as advertised on the cover), the "Toonerville Trolley" comic strip by Fontaine Fox, and fiction by Travis Ingham, Ursula Parrott, Milton MacKaye, and others.
