Magazine covers bear original botanical illustrations rendered in the Japanese painting tradition; mostly black-and-white photography throughout, with several color plates per issue. Ikebana International Magazine is the English-language journal of Ikebana International, founded in Tokyo in 1956 to promote Japanese flower arrangement across cultures. These seven issues span the early 1970s and document a remarkable breadth of ikebana practice: all three major schools (Ikenobo, Ohara, and Sogetsu), plus numerous regional schools including Ryusei-Ha, Koryu Shotokai, Koryu Katabamikai, Bunraku, Shuho, Enshu, Saga, Chiko, and Ichiyo. No. 30 (Fall 1970) is a special issue documenting the Second World Convention of Ikebana International in Tokyo, with addresses from officers, the Prime Minister of India, and the Governor of Virginia, school demonstrations, and coverage of a major ikebana exhibition at Takashimaya Department Store. Note: Issue No. 35 is not present in this lot. Hana Kagami (Flower Mirror) was a supplementary instructional publication issued to Ikebana International members, covering individual schools, masters, and techniques in depth. These eight issues focus on the Soami School under Headmaster Soshoen Yokochi, Director of Musashino Art University and scholar of traditional Japanese arts. Issues are folded, hole-punched for binder filing, and illustrated throughout in black-and-white. Newsletter No. 107 (May 1969) is an organizational bulletin reporting on international chapter activities and officer news. The Constitution and Bylaws booklet documents the society's governance structure as revised at the 1971 convention.
