Condition & notes
in very good condition. The outer folder shows moderate wear, with the glued bottom edge detached, bumping and creasing to edges and corners, and fading along the spine; previous owner's name written in ink on the inside triangular fold. The individual sheets remain clean, well preserved, and free of markings. Complete structure present but lacking one sheet from the typeface series (entitled "Trio"), otherwise intact. Promotional typography and paper specimen portfolio issued by Champion International Corporation to showcase the Champion Color Collection line. This set includes 21 (of the original 22) individual typeface specimen sheets (one lacking, Trio), each presenting full alphabets, numerals, and punctuation for decorative display faces; 9 additional sheets demonstrating combinations of two typefaces in designed compositions; and a final folded sheet detailing available paper stocks, finishes, colors, and basis weights across the Champion range. Each specimen identifies the specific paper used, including Carnival, Linen, Hopsack, Cordwain, and Text Cover stocks. Graphic content features bold Art Deco inspired portrait illustrations and layout examples emphasizing the interaction of typography, color, and paper surface. The portfolio was designed as a coordinated promotional piece, with all specimen pages printed in black and title and combination pages printed in two colors. Produced using multiple match matte inks and varnish on a six-color Heidelberg press.
