Number 4, Summer issue, covering June, July, August, 1900. In acceptable to poor condition. Original printed paper covers present, with the front cover fully detached. Covers show extensive edge chipping, tearing, and losses, particularly along fore-edges and corners; rear cover attached but fragile with losses and heavy wear. Spine edge reinforced only by original staples; text block binding remains intact. Interior pages show moderate to heavy age toning with chipping and tearing along page edges and margins, occasionally close but not affecting text. No pages missing. Early original 1900 issue of a classic American bibliophilic quarterly, scarce in any condition. The Book-Lover was devoted to literary history, bibliography, book collecting, printing, manuscripts, and publishing culture at the turn of the twentieth century, and is regarded as one of the most important American journals of book lore from this period. Edited and conducted by W. E. Price, the magazine drew extensively on essays and excerpts from British and American literary periodicals and authors, presenting them for a readership of collectors, booksellers, librarians, and scholars.
