Blue cloth covered boards with gold lettering on spine. Light scuffing to edges of covers. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. Dust jacket has a 1/4" tear on the top corner of the rear cover and a few other smaller nicks and tears and light creasing along edges. Light overall scuffing to jacket as well. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. [From front jacket flap] In 1890's Japan, The Necklace, a historical romance, reveals the struggles of a fourteen-year old geisha who does not give up her hopes of marrying a young American who adores her. After a night of love, the American proposes and gives the geisha a necklace as a promise and intention to marry her. The American has to return to the states to tend his dying father. At the same time the geisha's mother banishes her to live with an uncle of questionable character. The American promises to return for their wedding. Will the necklace bind them or betray them.
