Description
Yale Collection of Western Americana [Published Date: 1983. Very good condition. Single sheet (Broadside). Reprint by Yale's for friends of the Western Americana Collection, 1983. [From back side of sheet] In its appeal for funds, this account of Christmas at the Oklahoma missions reveals the mixture of sincerity and paternalism which characterized much Christian missionary work among North Americans. Although it is unsigned and undated, the broadside was probably printed at Watonga Mission, Oklahoma in the early 20th century. It may have been written by George L. Gibbs, a missionary to the Cheyenne, who composed a similar document, also in the Yale Collection of Western Americana, which described the events of Christmas, 1915. Only two copes of the original broadside are known to have survived; 400 copies have been reprinted at Christmas, 1983 for friends of the Western Americana Collection.
