In good condition with good dust jacket. Black cloth boards with gilt stamped title on spine. Light shelfwear and bumping to edges and corners. Binding tight. Previous owner's attractive book stamp on front paste down. Otherwise pages are clean and unmarked. Dust jacket has a few 1" or less nicks and tears and light overall scuffing, soiling and toning. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. Not ex library. Volume 1 of a two volume set in the Macmillan Color Series, originally published in the UK by Blandford Press. This volume covers the badges and insignia of the U.S., Great Britain, Poland, Belgium, Italy, U.S.S.R., and Germany during World War 2. [From front jacket flap] A wealth of books has been published in recent years on military uniforms and weapons of the great wars, and especially of the 1939-45 conflict, in response to a growing fascination for all things military; but no book has yet attempted to depict in full color and at a popular price the fabulous array of badges and insignia of some of the principal armies which fought in World War 2. Here, in one compact volume, are over 2,000 of these badges: the cap badges of the historic regiments of Britain, the divisional signs which won world renown on the great War campaigns, the flashes of the Fascist militia, the rank badges of the Italian army, of the Belgian and Polish armies as they were in 1939 before Germany invaded. Comprehensive coverage is also given to the principal United States units. But perhaps the most distinctive of all is a section, hitherto unpublished in the English language, on the badges, ranks and insignia of the land forces of the U.S.S.R. Guido Rosignoli was born in Gorizia, a border town in north east Italy. He was just old enough to witness the end of World War 2 which had such dramatic consequences in that area. In the subsequent, wearing years of border disputes, when it was commonplace for tanks to thunder through the streets of his town, he developed a passionate interest in military badges which he collects avidly and which to him are a meaningful reminder of those who suffered and died for their countries. Mr Rosignoli's meticulous illustrations are complemented by a fascinating, detailed text, which includes an historical introduction to the army of each country dealt with.
