In very good condition/ NO dust jacket. Blue cloth with red and gilt-stamped spine labels. Covers show light shelfwear, minor bumping to edges, and a touch of rubbing to spine. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked, with only mild age toning. Previous owner's bookplate affixed to front pastedown. Illustrated throughout with portraits and reproductions, including "Princess Victoria in Her Pony Phaeton" (1829), "Victoria Maria Louise, Duchess of Kent" (1849), and others. Edith Sitwell's (1887-1964) literary portrait of Queen Victoria (1819-1901), first published in 1936, presents the Queen's reign through the lens of personal and social life rather than politics. Sitwell draws upon Queen Victoria's own Letters and Journal, as well as works by Lytton Strachey, Hector Bolitho, Roger Fulford, and E. F.
