In very good condition with light bumping and creasing to edges and corners and light overall scuffing to wraps. Binding tight. Previous owner's gift inscription on title page. Otherwise pages are clean and unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. This commemorative facsimile was published for the 200th anniversary of the 1783 Treaty of Amity and Commerce between Sweden and the United States, the first treaty signed between the U.S. and a neutral nation. Includes John H. M. Hagard's historical introduction (in Swedish), contextualizing Swedish-American relations at the close of the Revolutionary War, with an English summary. Franklin S. Forsberg (U.S. Ambassador to Sweden) and Wilhelm H. F. Wachtmeister (Swedish Ambassador to the U.S.) provide forewords. The facsimile reproduces the original bilingual treaty (Swedish and French).
