In good condition. Printed wrappers show moderate foxing, soiling, toning, and edgewear, with some nicking and chipping along fore-edges; binding sound. Pages toned but unmarked, with scattered foxing. NOT Ex-Library. Collected and edited by Concha Michel, with a prologue by Dr. Alfonso Pruneda. This foundational ethnomusicological work brings together indigenous songs from across Mexico - Nahuas, Otomies, Tarascos, Coras, Huicholes, Tarahumaras, Yaquis, Papagos, Oaxaquenos, Tzotziles, and Mayas. Each song is presented with original text (phonetic transcription), Spanish translation, and accompanying melodies in staff notation. The volume preserves oral traditions through both music and text, while Zalce's woodcuts and period photographs visually situate the cultural practices. Includes "El Alabado," a Catholic hymn adapted into indigenous ritual life.
