Green (1902 - 1972) was a well-known South African journalist, adventurer, and author of over 30 books, most of them exploring obscure histories, folklore, and lesser-known corners of Africa. He was known for his vivid storytelling and deep interest in South African heritage. This volume draws its title from the Battle of Blaauwberg (1806), a pivotal event in Cape Colony history, but ranges far afield into subjects like the "Hottentot Venus," desert diamond lore, and encounters with the Baster people and other marginalized communities.
