Condition & notes
In acceptable condition/ NO dust jacket. Grey paper over boards with cream cloth on spine and cream printed paper label on front cover and spine. Bumping, nicking and a bit of chipping to edges of covers and cloth at top and bottom of spine. Covers have a few scratches and dings to boards as well. Light to moderate overall scuffing, aging and soiling to covers as well. One of the illustrations has separated from the binding and is laid in but all pages and illustrations are present and remainder of binding is intact. Previous owner's name and dates (Dec 15, 1924 Oct. 35) written in ink on front paste down. Index pages have a few checkmarks and dashes next to some of the songs in ink. Otherwise pages are aged but unmarked, with occasional spotting. Not Ex-library. Includes 9 black and white full page reproductions of paintings and ship engravings, including early packet ships and clipper ships such as the Sea Witch and Andrew Jackson. One of the first scholarly compilations of American sea chanteys and forecastle songs, collected directly from sailors and enriched with commentary and historical context. Includes musical scores and lyrics.
