White pictorial paper covers have a 1" tear to the top edge of the front cover and a few other small nicks and bumping and creasing to edges and corners. light overall scuffing and soiling to covers as well. Binding tight (staple bound). Pages unmarked. Includes 20 illustrations, seven of which are in color; A collection of non-commercial flat woven textiles, made exclusively for the weaver's own family, intended for everyday use until completely worn out. The one exception is the Beni Isguen carpet. They were collected between November, 1979, and June, 1981, during four trips. Includes bibliography. [from Introduction] The traditional weaving of Algeria is of wide variety, though little known. More familiar in the United States are the weavings of their neighbors, Morocco and Tunisia. Though all share common North African design characteristics, the Algerian weavings are distinctive in design and coloring. It has been a real investigation, although far from complete, to find, identify and understand the traditional designs. This search was facilitated by my background in weaving as a contemporary art form and my interests in historical and ethnographic textiles, and by the origins of my husband, Aissa Ben Amar. Born in Algeria, near Oran, he speaks the Berber language, as well as North African Arabic, and French. . .
