Steve Stein (b. 1935) was an American artist known for his vibrant acrylic paintings and whimsical, impressionistic style. He displayed early artistic talent, exhibiting at the Chicago Art Institute at age six, and later studied at the Chouinard Art Institute alongside Ed Ruscha. In 1963, he opened the Steve Stein Gallery on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks, one of the longest-running single-owner galleries in the San Fernando Valley, showcasing his work and that of artists like Marc Chagall and Jean-Michel Folon. Moving to Oak Park in 1966, he continued creating and exhibiting, with his work appearing in celebrity homes and corporate collections. Stein's art, often featuring acrylics, felt pens, and oil pastels, expressed humor and optimism, and he frequently repurposed discarded works into collages.
