Original blue cloth with original faded paper spine label. Illustrated with five photogravures, including portraits and historical scenes, printed on tissue-guarded plates, and a color frontis-piece of a young Louis XVII. In good+ condition. Light blue cloth covered boards have light bumping and scuffing to edges and fading to spine. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked, with most leaves left uncut. This is Volume I of The Royal Family of France During the Revolution, part of the Courts of Europe series, based on the journals and letters of Marie Therese Louise of Savoy, Princesse de Lamballe (1749-1792), a close confidante of Queen Marie Antoinette. The text provides firsthand accounts of court intrigue, political upheaval, and personal recollections leading up to and during the French Revolution.
