In good condition/ NO dust jacket. Black cloth covered boards with gold lettering on spine. Light bumping to edges of covers and light overall scuffing and soiling to covers as well. Binding tight. One set of pages (229 - 232) is bound upside down. pages lightly aged but otherwise unmarked. The memoir, told mainly through letters with additional insights from his sister, Ina Montgomery, chronicles the life of John Hugh Allen (1887-1915), a New Zealand soldier and son of Sir James Allen, who served as Minister of Defence during World War I. The narrative provides insights into his upbringing, education at Cambridge, legal career in London, and military service, culminating in his death at Gallipoli in 1915.
