Description

Evangelische Zions-Gemeinde, 1908. 50th Anniversary Commemorative Pamphlet for the Evangelische Zions-Gemeinde Church in St. Joseph Mo., date 1908. Text in German. The program commemorates the 50th anniversary of the church, celebrated on May 31, 1908, and provides a foreword by Pastor Wm. Hackmann, dated April 20, 1908, reflecting on the church's founding in 1858 by German-speaking immigrants, its growth, and its role as a spiritual and social hub. Includes 11 black and white illustrations, portraits and photo reproductions. Also included is a separate pamphlet entitled "Program for the Musical and Literary Entertainment given by Young People's Society of Zion's Evangelical Church, dated December, 30th 1909, which includes two undated newspaper clippings of the event pasted on first page and local advertisements from local businesses, such as J.C. Schmidt's Shoe Store and W. Wehrman (Hardware and Furnaces), reflecting the strong ties between the church and the St. Joseph community. Both pamphlets are

in acceptable condition. Cloth tape on spine on front cover of anniversary brochure. Chipping to covers along spine of both brochures but brochures are still intact (staple bound). Program has a 3/4" circular hole in the front cover and a 2" tear along the top edge of most pages. A nice piece of church history.
