In good condition. Pale green illustrated paper covers have light bumping and creasing to edges and corners and light overall scuffing, aging and soling.. Binding tight (staple bound). Light spotting and soiling around edges of text block. Otherwise pages are lighlty aged but clean and unmarked. NOT Ex-library. NO remainder marks. [from first page] This catalogue is actually a side effect of a much larger project: the preparation of a town and county bibliography for Texas. Several years ago I began a serious attempt to compile a list of histories of Texas towns and counties, starting with the 800 - odd entries in Dr. H. Bailey Carroll's excellent bibliography, published in 1943. The task grew so prodidgious, so expensive, and so tedious that I put it aside. Last spring, however, I acquired two large collections of town and county histories (later supplemented by a smaller but sizable third collection) and this was too fortunate an opportunity to pass up. The outcome was this catalogue, which includes over 75% of the items listed by Dr. Carroll and nearly a thousand additional items, and within a few days after the mailing of the catalogue the Pemberton Press publication of Cracker Barrel Chronicles, a Bibliography of Texas Town and County Histories, with over 4000 entries. The items in this catalogue make up such a superior collection (and this is not entirely a pitch) that it is a shame that someone does not purchase it as a unit. I know of no more complete collection outside the major institutions. Years of work went into forming the three original collections, and I have spent more hours than were financially feasible in filling in the gaps. Only two counties are not represented here: Jim Wells and LaSalle. Dr. Carroll's bibliography lacks more than ten times that number. . .
