[From Introduction, page 6] Looking to Learn, created by the Education Department of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, comprises three main components. Pre-visit activities outlined in this guide are teacher-led and set the stage for learning about art. Next, Docent slide talks introduce objects which will be seen in the Museum and initiate a dialogue, encouraging students to discover elements of design. Finally, a Docent-led tour of the Museum brings students face to face with works of art. This combination of discussion, slide viewing, hands-on activities, and the excitement of a Museum visit provides student with an opportunity to learn through seeing, doing and thinking.
