From a seaside resort colony it has grown into a city in the full stride of its strength. This, in a few words, is the story of Long Beach as disclosed by deeds conveying its land, by old records and current observation. Transcripts of United States Land Commission proceedings, court files, early maps and other interesting documents have been gathered together and drawn upon. From this shaking up of the dry bones of local history comes a vivid story of two ranchos-Los Alamitos and Los Cerritos-that became a city. Because of the wide demand for the four previous printings of this booklet-history of Long Beach, it is a pleasure to issue it again.
