The Museum of New Mexico and the New Mexico State Highway Commission have been engaged for several years in a joint effort to preserve New Mexico's rich cultural heritage of archaeological and historical remains. The resultant highway salvage archaeology program has increased tremendously our knowledge of New Mexico's past, and it was to further improve the effectiveness of this program that the Highway Cultural Inventory Project was designed.
