In good condition. Orange pictorial paper covers have light bumping and creasing to edges and corners and light overall spotting, soiling and aging. Binding tight (staple bound). Pages lightly aged but otherwise clean and unmarked. NOT Ex-library. Black and white illustrations. [From introduction] The Governor's Mansion is a towering Victorian residence that stands in today's world like a dowager holding embroidered skirts aloof from the bustle and traffic beyond its lacy iron fences. Its architecture alone cannot explain the charm of this unique building. To understand it, to get the feel of life that distinguishes it, one must meet those who peopled its halls, for this building reflects the luster of its residents. Fifteen families have lived here on the corner of 16th and H streets in Sacramento; two were well-known private families, and thirteen were the families of Governors of California. Although it was the head of the family who brought prestige to the Mansion, it was the wife and children who turned it into a pleasant, happy home, and left an abiding mark upon its character. Here, let the visitor meet each of these families and their special memories in this unique home.
