The Haynes Foundation, 1945. Pamphlet, paper covers 12 pages. In good+ condition. Green and white paper covers have very light bumping to edges and corners and light overall aging and soiling. Binding tight (staple bound). Pages lightly aged but clean and unmarked. This pamphlet was prepared as one of a series of lectures sponsored by the John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation at the Los Angeles Central Library during April, 1945. Based upon a lecture by the former director of the National Resources Planning Board. Describes the types of citizen organizations, ways that they can help in the various steps of the planning process, and the experience of Los Angeles and other cities with citizen participation in planning. Finally, it proposes the creation of a Citizens Planning Council for the metropolitan Los Angeles. Includes 2-page summary of information on citizen planning groups in other major cities. [From Introduction] The American genius for organization and yet more organization has produced a great variety of forms and procedures for support of planning and development of our cities and metropolitan areas. We have our official governmental agencies and we have strictly private unofficial citizen groups - and in between, there is every conceivable combination of public and private interests. This statement is an effort to explore the experience of Los Angeles and other communities in the organization of unofficial or private citizen support for official agencies.
