Color illustrations; bibliography. A companion publication to the Catalog of the Polinica previously published in 2008. [From Preface] The Skokloster Castle Library holds a unique collection of Polish prints discovered in the early 1970s. They were brought to the castle as the spoils of war of Field Marshal Count Carl Gustaf Wrangel, who was the founder and first owner of the castle. The collection is referred to as Polonicasamlingen - The Polonica Collection. Between 2006 and 2008, the books and short prints from the collection were catalogued and [a] catalogue was published. The present volume, entitled A Unique Polish Collection from the Skokloster Castle Library deals with Polish-Swedish relations in the 17th century, when both countries were ruled by the House of Vasa. It tells about the discovery of the collection and its history. It presents in some detail the content of the collection and discusses its importance for studies carried out on Polish literature and culture from the Baroque period. A true gem in the collection is a unique carol entitled Jesus - God and Man, Born in a Stable in Bethlehem, whose only preserved copy is the one kept at Skokloster. We now publish the whole 17th century text together with an introductory article, a contemporary paraphrase of the carol and a newly-composed melody.
