Descry Magazine was a print book founded in 2009 by working artist Chelsea Rae Klein with the intent of supporting the visibility of emergent women, people of color and queer artists. Five issues were released over 5 years each coinciding with a brick and mortar exhibition. This is issue No. 1, Spring 2010.

[From last page] Descry is a biannual publication born out of the striking necessity to support the visibility of emerging visual artists, particularly women, people of color, and queers. Our publication is a nod to the fleeting romanticism, beauty, and beast of modern world. Developed out of San Francisco's Mission District, Descry is an innovative adjunct to the arts and counter-culture movement with a combined documentary and conceptual approach to culture, politics, gender, and social experience. Issue No. 1, The Beginning: Where do we go from here? The beginning is often a frightening, forsaken place to be; other times the beginning is absolutely organic and filled with beauty. The beginning might be an ode to our capacity or an ominous partaking brought on by death or decree. The first issue of Descry is thus a collection of 31 artist's thoughts, visions, explanations of where we arc now, where we were before, and where or how we go from here. This issue is a journal of what inspires us to proceed, who we owe it all to, how we move with or without grace, what obstacles are in and around us, how we leap and bound over, around, and despite these walls.
