In good condition. Glossy cream illustrated paper covers have light bumping and creasing to edges and corners and light overall scuffing, aging and soiling. Binding tight. Damp-staining to bottom edge of text block, with pages a bit wavy from moisture exposure and lightly discolored along the bottom edge, including on the 14 page colored plate section at the center of the book. Otherwise pages are lightly aged but clean and unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. NO remainder marks. A good reading copy. [From back cover] Costume authority, stage designer, and scholar, Herbert Norris envisioned the history of wearing apparel as a series of great tableaux which he brilliantly described in an encyclopedic four-volume history of fashion. Beginning with the last years of King George III (1800-1820) and concluding with the latter part of Queen Victorias reign (1877-1900), Norris charmingly details a host of nineteenth-century apparel: a French court dress (1818), a gentleman’s cloak (1823), the Garibaldi shirt (1861), an evening dress (1865), and a Parisian gown (1895). Also included are tennis, hockey, golfing, bathing and cycling costumes, and scores of other outfits, underclothing and headgear. Ably illustrated by Oswald Curtis, this comprehensive survey is enhanced by 200 finely detailed black-and-white line illustrations and twenty-seven full color drawings.
