Schirmer" and includes excerpt of 1st pages of each piece: "I am thy harp" by R. Huntington Woodman; Thou art to me by G. W. Chadwick; In the Dusk of the Evening by C. Whitney Coombs and To-day and To-morrow by Homer N. Bartlett Op. 214. Rear of cover has another 4 excerpts from "Recent successful piano pieces" : Gavotte by Frank Renard; Gavotte by Rene L. Becker. Op. 20a; The Tattler Schottische by Ralph C. Jackson; Salut au Printemps by Henri Van Gael. Op. 128. In acceptable+ condition with a 1" slit at the top of the fold of the outer covers and a few other nicks and tears along edges. Large (5") circular stain (looks like coffee) on front cover. Otherwise pages lightly aged but unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. (1856 - 1929) was composer, writer, and major music critic. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati in 1880, he he studied music in Berlin under Scharwenka, Kiel, Moszkonski, and Oscar Raif. Upon returning to Cleveland, Smith opened a studio and taught organ, piano, voice, and composition. The author of many musical texts used in the U.S. and Europe, Smith's most popular work was Thematic Octave Studies: In the Form of Variations on Original Theme: Opus 68, published in 1902. Smith wrote over 1,000 compositions, including piano solos and suites, songs and technical studies for the piano, dances, and waltzes.
