Black and white illustrations [From foreword] The Riverside County cookbook was compiled by the Ladies of the Christian Churches of Riverside and San Jacinto in order to raise funds for church activities. Although no publication date is indicated, evidence suggests that the volume was produced about 1898-1899. Few copies seem to remain, and this cookbook, a direct copy of the original, is published with the intention of preserving and making available to modern readers an element of our local past to which attention is not generally paid. Recipes from the past are, admittedly, not rare. But comparatively little regard is usually directed towards the kinds of foods, methods of preparation, and culinary preferences familiar to early inhabitants of our region. And vintage recipes which do come to light are usually in individual rather than collective form, A compilation such as this, therefore, consistiug of contributions from. some of Riverside County's early women citizens, is indeed a treasure.
