NO remainder marks. n this book, art historian, Professor Magne Malmanger, who for many years has followed Debré's art, examines the material and assembles this presentation. In addition, Haaken Christensen, Mag. Art has helped with his overview and knowledge of Debré's art and Norwegian Public. The exhibition is based on generous loans of paintings from The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., and from Norwegian collectors. The Norwegian landscape has literally become the very foundation in our image of our national identity. Over and over again, in endlessly new interpretations, the landscape around us has been the subject-matter, the theme, the everlasting thread running through our pictorial art. This landscape as a subject is so strong and willful that we find it unavoidable that it should take command when artists from other countries attempt to depict it. Thus there was a certain tension in the encounter of the typically Norwegian landscape and a classic artist of the French lyrical abstraction; the convergence of Norway's west-coast nature and Olivier Debré. This meeting developed into more than a brief encounter between two disparate identities.
