Fillers. Black and white line drawings. [From introduction] When I want to paint something special, I immediately reach for my own sketches rather than a study. I always need to check the accuracy of my memory for details. I find a composition that keeps repeating the same flower shape rather boring. If I don't check my sketchbook and my notes, my work tends to become repetitive. My students often have trouble turning a flower, or picturing a bud or a particular angle of a flower or a leaf. Although we try to work from life whenever we can, we find our sketches to be a good substitute. I hope you may find them useful too.
