[From introduction] In connection with the City of London Festival this year, the Guild of Glass Engravers was invited to mount an exhibition, representative of its best work, in the church of St.Lawrence Jewry-by-Guildhall from 7th-19th July. The work ¡s in several techniques, such as diamond point or steel point — drill (or revolving point) - and copper wheel. The art of glass engraving by point and wheel is quite a thousand years old, but has seen periods of decline. The recent revival in Britain of individual freelance engravers finds no parallel abroad as yet. It brought the Guild into being, founded five years ago, and now has an engraving membership of over 400.
