Through listing the artists included in over 50 biographical directories or significant exhibitions, it provides means for you to answer the questions, "Is the artist listed?" and "Where can I go to find biographical or other data on the artist?". It was initiated as a pocket abstract of my library, with the major emphasis being on the California and Western artists before 1960... You will find much valuable data herein. The Panama-Pacific International Exposition of 1915 in San . Francisco featured an outstanding exhibition of Califoria art, but the specifics can only be found in some rare books which can only be located in specialized art libraries. The Cowboy in Art while not quite as rare, is difficult to purchase and can only be fund in larger libraries. Many of the exhibition catalogs can only be found on collectors' shelves or in the good art libraries. In addition to the California and Western listings, I have included a USA category. First, within that category we have two very significant national elective art organizations: the National Academy of Design (NAD) and the American Watercolor Society (AWS).
