[From back cover] 50 Neds is a labor of love by Melbourne artist and writer Maree Coote, who dives head first into the Kelly legend and surfaces with a collection of decorative pieces that are a celebration of a very Australian visual aesthetic. Crammed with flora and fauna unique to Downunder, these colorful works are spontaneous compositions that contain the sparks of many recurring themes and diversions found in Coote's other paintings, sketches and writing. Her interest in Australian history fuses here with a career in the visual arts, and the result is a very playful exploration of the legend of bushranger Ned Kelly...an icon.
